i didn't know about those "hell houses." it was disturbing to read on so many levels. but i think the biggest one is that it sounds like it really was designed to prey on people and their fears (dark, claustrophobic, etc) to torment them into submission. the whole idea of taunting someone into believing bothers me so much.

i'm not sure if you're a big podcast listener, but you might enjoy Point of Inquiry. this subject comes up a fair amount, in interviews with lots of different people. regardless of what people believe, this is an interesting subject (when discussed in a rational way, i mean).

but the Hell House thing really takes the cake. it makes me cringe. a lot.
