quiet times...

Right now, there's only about five people in my office because most everyone decided to take today off ahead of the holiday.
And it's really quite nice. Don't get me wrong, I usually enjoy the very lively silliness that goes on around here, but it's kind of nice to work in relative silence away from people for a bit.
Same way at home. My parents are in DC and I didn't exactly catch when they'd be coming back, so it could be tonight or tomorrow. But since Tuesday, I've been by myself at home.
Nobody but me and the free range furballs. It's actually quite nice. I've noticed that they don't bark in the mornings when it's just us, and that they sleep when I sleep. And by the time I get up, all the people who are crazy enough to take their dogs walking at 6:45 am are gone.
We've gotten into a nice routine. At night, I take a mug of hot sugarfree cider or hot decaf up to my room and try to convince the little guy (the very cute Pom who's 60% piss and 40% vinegar) that we do not have a 'mi pillow, su pillow' policy in this house. I journal and he sprawls at my feet like a big squirrel and tries to put his foot in his ear (no, seriously, he does that).
It's a good life.
