Gakked egregiously from [livejournal.com profile] drednort

1. What was the first car your family had?

Ye old Ford Taurus. White on the outside. Maroon on the inside. Hidden compartment in the trunk - also good place to store very wet and dirty children and/or dogs when you don't want them in the front seat. Have no idea what year.

2. What was the name of your first pet and why?

Porky Pig (Masuda - that's how they pronounced the Japanese word to us). A regulation-sized pomeranian who was owned by the Japanese college students who rented the house next to ours. They had to return to Japan and couldn't take their dogs. We loved Porky dearly anyway. My dad especially. So we took him home and he was ours. He thought he was a bird dog and chewed on anything that was even remotely organic looking or smelling. Also? Managed to drag our gas grill down the street after dad tied his leash to it.

3. What did you want to be when you grew up?

Lots of stuff. Geologist. Paleontologist. Author (still want to be that one). Teacher (sorta kinda still want that one). Singer.

4. What was the name of your elementary school?

McKenzie Elementary School. Only one in our town. One of only two public schools because the junior and senior high schools were combined. Yeah. That small.

5. Who was your first best friend?

Jerome Azbell. Very intelligent, gentle, soft-spoken sweet kid with glasses who was smart as me. Very nice. I think I had a crush on him.

6. Are you still friends today, and if not, what happened?

Nope. We moved away. He went to Kentucky. I went to Tennessee. He also won a regional spelling bee which I saw in my paper and grew up to be CUTE.

7. What was your favorite board game?

Checkers.

8. Did you play house or other make believe games?

All the time. In fact, I did that more than anything.

9. Were you a Dungeons and Dragons geek?

Nope. Did go to an AD&D get together once. Was the only girl there. Felt like a nun in a brothel and was very confused. My character was apparently not well drawn. I'm too much of a writer to play AD&D, I fear.

10. Did you sleep with stuffed animals as a kid?

Tons. I gave them names, histories, and feelings. I anthropomorphized the heck out of 'em. Felt guilty if any were on the floor, because they'd be lonely and forlorn away from me and the rest of the gang.

11. Do you still sleep with stuffed animals?

Nope. Unless you count my dog after he's eaten a lot. Because he sleeps at the foot of my bed and is stuffed and is most decidedly an animal.

12. Who was the first person you looked up to when you were younger?

Not really anyone.

13. Who was your favorite relative?

Probably one of my grandmothers or grandfathers.

14. Were you short or tall in elementary school?

Short like a mug. Still am.

15. Were you teased in school?

Hell. Yes.

16. What was the name of your favorite teacher?

Can't name just one. I've had lots of good ones and for various reasons.

Almost every elementary school teacher I had (Mrs. Murray, Mrs. Howell, Mrs. Argo, Mrs. Perkins).

A couple of teachers from middle school (Mrs. Covington, Mr. Watlington, Mr. Roe)

Mr. Roe especially because he was the first teacher who RESPECTED me and treated me as though I had every right to not only expect respect, but to expect that my teachers would hold up their end of a contract. In fact, the man who gave me the idea of reciprocity in teaching situations - a theory I hold near and dear to this day.

Lots for high school (Mrs. Cook, Mrs. Taylor, Mr. Briley, Mr. Hiscox, Mr. Bennett).

17. What was the name of your least favorite teacher?

Mrs. Smith. She physically assaulted me for accidentally taking a test form out of the room. And that's all I want to say about that.

18. What was your best subject in school?

English and/or history

19. What was your worst subject in school?

Math. Oh, math, the bane of my existence! How you tormented me!

20. Did you do well in Physical Education?

Not really.

21. Were you clumsy when you were younger?

I've never NOT been clumsy.

22. Who was your favorite band as a kid?

Kansas or Simon and Garfunkel. Ace of Base? Yeah. I was a weird weird kid.

23. What was your favorite movie as a kid?

Milo and Otis.

24. Did your parents read to you?

Yep.

25. Did you have a favorite book?

Tyrannosaurus Was a Beast

And I quote:

Tyrannosaurus was a beast,
He had no friends to say the least
He ruled the ancient out of doors
And slaughtered other dinosaurs

Dinosaur poetry. What more do you frelling want?

26. What was your favorite restaurant as a kid?

Our town was tres small, so not really any. Later on, I liked O'Charleys and a few local places in Jackson.

27. What TV or movie star did you have a crush on?

That's a long list. MacGyver (Richard Dean Anderson). Lucas Wolenczak (Jonathan Brandis). Matthew Lawrence.

28. Do you now wonder what you were thinking?

Nope. 'cause now I know I was thinking "oh sweet androgynous joy!" Or possibly, "oh my god, you fix things a lot and you have sexy hands!"

29. Who was your first crush in school?

Kid named Colby. He was two years older than me.

30. As a child, what kind of car did you want when you grew up?

Bwuh?

31. Did your parents spank you?

Sometimes. It was always big drama and upset me for hours.

32. Did your parents fight a lot when you were a kid?

Moderately. But no more than most.

33. Did your parents get divorced or stay married?

Divorced like a horse, baby.

34. If they got divorced, how old were you when it happened?

14.

35. Did you ever run away from home?

Nope. Never felt the need to. Plus I didn't want to give up all my stuff. I thought if you ran away it was against the rules (what rules?) to take anything with you. You had to be smart enough to get more stuff as you went along. Hence homeless people having nothing because they hadn't figured out how to get more stuff.

36. How old were you when/if you first got glasses?

4th grade.

37. Did you need braces or a retainer?

Thank god I didn't. I was already a fat girl with glasses, acne, and a 'tude. A fat girl with glasses, acne, a 'tude *and* braces? I would've started breaking mirrors, people.

38. If you're male, how old were you when you had your first wet dream?

Uh, 'scuse me. I'm female and I had my first sexual dream at 15, thanks. Sorry if I didn't ejaculate enough to qualify for this question. Hmph.

39. Both sexes when did you start shaving?

About 12/13. When leg hairs got to be an issue.

40. Girls when did you start wearing a bra?

About fifth grade. I had honkers early on, man.

41. What was your first kiss like?

Awkward, in a movie theatre, and scary. But kinda nice afterwards when I thought "oh, well, that's over now and I didn't screw up or cause him to hate me forever! Let's never do this again!"

42. What did you do on your first date?

Went to the movies. Felt each other up.

43. How old were you when you first drank?

Drank as in my parents gave me a sip of some alcoholic beverage or drank as in I got to have the whole damn thing?

Sip giving - early early. My dad gave me bourbon once when I had an earache. It was nice. Ear didn't ache so bad after that.

Whole damn thing - probably 16ish. And didn't like it much then, to tell you the truth.

44. Where was your first house?

House in Charleston, South Carolina. Can't remember the address, but it was nice.
