It's JUNE. It's 70 degrees outside. Why the fuck are you running the furnace? Why are my radiators on full blast?

I'll tell you why. Our neighbor across the hall (who's apartment contains the thermostat for the entire building), is a little old lady who's rail thin and apparently has forgotten what it's like to be a warm blooded mammal like everyone else in the building.

I want to smack her. I know, me wanting to smack an old lady, but she's been annoying me for months.

First she has all these nurses and physical therapists that come to see her, but she can't be bothered to tell them not to ring either a) the bell that rings every doorbell in the building or b) my doorbell, which is next to hers.

So I end up answering the door and going down the stairs, which annoys me. But I smile and don't take it out on the therapist/nurse people, because hey - they don't know. It's *her* job to inform them.

Second, she'll buzz just anyone into the building. So if some robber/rapist comes along and rings her doorbell between the hours of 8am and 5pm, she'll let him in.

Third, I think she takes my mail sometimes. Not on purpose, but when she does accidentally grab my mail with hers, I don't think she returns it, either. I'd probably find a couple of Netflix DVD's in her apartment somewhere if I looked. Or they went in the trash - but I *pay* for those.

I also think it was her that kept a card my mom sent in October until *Febuary* when she deigned to put it on the stair railing.

Part of the problem is that the building's mail all comes in one big lump together and we sort it out on the stairs. Now, I'm nice enough to not only sort her mail out for her, but bring up with me (since I'm already going upstairs) and put it in front of her door.

Ugh.

She also has a dog who will bark at anything. Now, I let that slide 'cause I too have owned a dog that makes with the yappity yap - but I didn't live in an apartment. If I did, I'd be more careful.

The thing about yappy dogs is, if you move them away from whatever is making them bark and distract them, then they'll stop. They're DOGS. You can outsmart them.

Nobody else's dog in this building makes as much noise as hers.

I called Andrew to call the landlord (I don't have her number) about the radiator thing, because that's ridiculous - and I hope she switches it off until we actually need it. Because that wastes electricity that we'll need when it gets really hot and we need to run the air conditioner before we die of heatstroke over here.

Still, I won't let this ruin my day. I'll do my best to keep cool and ignore the annoying neighbor, because let's face it. Bad neighbors are just a part of life. Like the chicken pox. You try not to scratch and hope they go away soon.

Awesome attitude. Have I told you lately that you rock?

Still, I so get the annoying neighbor thing. And no safe mail? Ugh. Is a PO box a possibility?

Maybe you could go talk to the old lady and tell her that, as a favor out of the kindness of your heart, you will be taking care of her mail from now on. If you're up for delivering her mail every day, it will keep her away from yours!
