Back in NYC.
I was kind of sad to leave CT, and I wished I'd gotten to hug the Boy's mom goodbye, but she was in the hospital with the Boy's sister. They think she might be able to come home very soon (today, possibly tomorrow).
The wedding we went to was ultra-traditional Ukranian. The entire service, save for a few parts, was entirely done in Ukranian. Complete with a Ukranian choir singing from the choir loft. There was even a handbinding ceremony along with a ceremony with crowns of myrtle leaves.
Which the Boy's mom commented, "That is so pagan."
See why I love her so much? Because she is THAT AWESOME.
It was fun to get to experience a wedding like that. The reception afterwards was interesting too, and also traditional. It was done in Ukranian and English, so everything had to be said twice by the poor DJ's. Especially for the babushkas (grandmothers).
I got a little tipsy on wine and diet coke 'n rum, for which I felt a bit sheepish. In my defense, the wedding was at 2:00, and the reception wasn't 'til 7:00. So I hadn't eaten since 12:00 that day and then all I had in front of me was a party plater of veggies 'n dip. Which doesn't work well with wine.
I got to meet some of his family, and I ended up in their family photo somehow even though I'm not actually an Oprysko yet or anything. I felt really embarrassed about that.
So it was a good trip, complete with dogs (dogs!) and cats (cats!) and the realization that the Boy cannot behave himself in church.
Case in point: We're sitting, waiting for the wedding to begin, and suddenly to my right I hear, "Spiderpig, spiderpig, does whatever a spiderpig does..." accompanied by the Boy's version of what other people call dancing.
We won't talk about him trying to grab my butt in church, either.
Or the fact that I almost accidentally said "mazeltov!" to the bride when we shook her hand after the wedding. Yeah, that wouldn't have gone over well in the Ukranian Orthodox Church.
Still, much fun was had.
Now I have to go back to work tomorrow. *grumbles*. Stupid job.
