Congratulations! And color me wrong. Just the other day, my boy was saying how straight couples can get domestic partnerships, and I was like "I don't think so..."
It's probably a very common misconception that straight couples can't get domestic partnerships, but the forms just say "partner 1" and "partner 2". I think the misconception probably comes from the fact that a) most straight couples can go ahead and get married and b) domestic partnerships are sort of the appeasement the government hands same-sex couples instead of, yanno, doing the right thing and extending marriage rights to all Americans.
But we get most of the rights of married couples. Unless we move out of state, and then other states don't consider us to know each other from Adam as far as they're concerned.
