Thursday, 4 May 2006 17:48I'd say sorry that I've been absent from LJ land, but uh. I'm not. I've been in New York being treated like a *princess*. So, yeah.
On Sunday, we took a nice walk to and through a cemetery that's near Andrew's apartment. It might sound like a creepy place, but it was nice to actually be in a place where I didn't feel that New York-y type of claustrophobia that comes from knowing that everything around you for miles and miles is straight concrete and crowds.
It was very beautiful and New York in spring (where there is evidence of spring) is gorgeous.
The view of the New York skyline from the cemetery. You can see basically all the big important buildings.
A tree that's had all kinds of stuff carved into it to the point of looking freakish.

A bunny. Yes, a bunny. And while the bunny is not particularly special. It sorta just hopped around and ate the dandelions. *But* what is special is how a small furry mammal can turn two otherwise intelligent people into *idiots*. Especially when they have a camera and are desperately hissing at each other "take a picture of the bunny! It's a bunny! It's the only bunny we'll ever see again in life!"
Hell money. I'm told it's a traditional Chinese (?) custom.
A stone fire hydrant that's part of a fireman's grave.
The aforementioned fireman.
Part of a very strange grave which includes a long rant on the rights of man and scientific lists.
A fairly creepy view of gravestones from behind. Somehow symbolic.
One of the most beautiful places in the entire cemetery.
A large section of the cemetery which is Asian. I saw lots of graves with pieces of paper under rocks (or just rocks) on top and incense at the foot of the grave.
A headstone on broken ground which looks like somebody was trying to escape.
Also not the cemetery. But a cool star wars toy that Andrew found in a drawer that someone threw out in his apartment building.
Another part of the weird grave marker.
Gay. It's actually just the family name. *But* I kinda felt there was some kind of message. That being gay shouldn't be a death sentence or something to that effect. Also? Any excuse to say/show the word gay. 'cause gay is love, man. Fabulous love.
I'll post the pictures from the Metropolitan Museum of Art tomorrow. There's a lot of them and I need to look up the artists for the pictures where I didn't make a mental note or a picture of the name plate.
