Brokeback Mountain!
Monday, 23 January 2006 11:06To say that Brokeback Mountain ruled is totally an understatement. I won't spoil it for anyone, but EVERYONE who has access to this movie MUST go see it.
Really.
Because it is probably the best tragic love story I've ever seen. And I *don't* like tragic love stories at all. I despise tragic love stories, in fact. Because they never ring true to me. But Brokeback Mountain was truer than true?
And there was one scene where I thought my heart was going to explode in my chest from glee and joy and love and sweet, sweet sorrow because *oh my god* how much did they love each other and how beautiful was it?
So. Beautiful.
Some idiot in our newspaper was trying to act like Brokeback Mountain wasn't that great of a movie with the old "I don't have a problem with gay people, it's just the movie..."
Nuh uh. If you have any part of your *soul* that can be the least bit nonjudgemental and learn to accept people this movie will win you over. And if it doesn't? I'm thinking that you don't have that part like I do.
The only valid complaint about the movie I could see was that sometimes it *was* a little slower and quieter than it could have been and there were times when I wanted to see Ennis express a little more of what was going on inside of himself. I wish the movie had centered on Jack, because Jack was *way* more externalizing, but then it would've been a way different movie.
It ruled. It ruled a lot.
And bonus, Anne Hathaway does a really good job being a bitch and a really shallow blonde. Finally, a movie where she's NOT a princess! Michelle Williams wasn't as good as everyone is raving that she is. Frankly, I think that her part could've been played by just about anyone. Some part of the movie I felt sympathy for her position, but not the character herself.
Okay, enough movie reviewing.
Go SEE it.
